Bring the delimited listings Timeslips already prints. Tier 4 Legal reads them, shows every row it will keep and every row it will leave out, and writes only when you say so.

What to bring from Timeslips

Seven listings, each printed to a delimited file with its header row. Your office can make them in one sitting.

Clients

The client listing with nicknames and addresses.

Timekeepers

Names, initials and rate levels.

Task and expense codes

Two listings, the task listing and the expense listing, with rates.

Slips

Time and expense slips, billed and unbilled.

Bills

Bill numbers, dates, balances and the payments column.

Funds

Trust and retainer transactions.

2

What happens when you upload

Tier 4 Legal reads every file, works out which listing it is, and shows the counts: clients, matters, timekeepers, entries, bills, payments, trust. Nothing is written yet.

Every left-out row, named

Rows that cannot be placed are listed by file and, where it applies, row number, with the reason in plain words.

Finish

One confirmation writes everything in a single step. Uploading the same files twice is caught before anything is written.

Undo

The whole move-in comes back out, as long as no new work has been added on top of it. If something has, Tier 4 Legal names it.

3

What stays the same

Your numbers and your history come across in the shape you already use.

Nicknames become numbers

Nickname 2 becomes the matter number. Clients are filed under their full names.

Rate levels become a rate table

Each timekeeper keeps a rate per level; each slip keeps the rate it was billed at.

Billed slips link to their bill

A billed slip with no bill is set aside and named.

Funds replay in order

Trust funds replay with a running balance. Anything that would go below zero is set aside and named, never written.

Retainers combine

Retainer money is added up into one retainer balance, and the preview tells you how many lines were combined.

Bill numbers continue

New bills continue after the highest imported number in your numbering.

What moves differently. Slip text longer than the field is kept in full in the entry description. Timeslips has no payments listing we read: payments come from the payments column on each bill and from funds applied to a bill. Do-not-bill and no-charge slips keep those marks.
4

Your first hour

Open the app, check three things, and get back to work.

Funds balances

Compare the Trust tab to your last Timeslips funds report. The numbers should match to the cent.

Open bills

Open receivables should equal your last aging. Bill numbers are the ones you already use.

Rates

Rates and codes are under Settings. New entries pick up the right rate for the client, matter and timekeeper.

Where it runs. The move-in runs from the Mac app or any browser. The iPhone app shows its progress and history and holds the same clients, matters, slips, bills and trust ledger.
