What your firm does here

The daily work of a billing firm, in one place.

Everything below is in the product today. Nothing on this page describes a plan.

Time entry

Tenth of an hour increments, UTBMS categories and your own task codes, billable or not. Each entry picks up the right rate for the client, matter and timekeeper.

Trust and IOLTA

Every dollar traced to a client with a running balance. A disbursement that would overdraw a client is refused before it is written.

Client portal

Clients read their invoices, pay by card through Stripe and message the firm, with the payment reconciled against the invoice.

Bills

Unbilled time and costs become a numbered bill in one step, in your own numbering, with terms, aging and payments tracked against the balance.

Docket and deadlines

Filing deadlines and statute dates in one list, sorted by what is due next, with overdue entries flagged.

Conflict checking

Search clients, matters and opposing counsel by name before a new case is accepted.

Retainer and statute alerts

Low trust balances, depleted retainers, clients whose unbilled time exceeds their deposit, and statute dates ranked by urgency.

Collections

Overdue bills in aging buckets with a suggested next step, write-offs, and payments recorded by hand when a client pays by check.

Reports your firm reads on Monday

Trust balances, trust reconciliation, receivables aging and work in progress. Billing summary, productivity, matter profitability, timekeeper rates and collections sit beside them.

Client statements

Opening balance, bills, payments and trust activity for any period, with the closing balance, saved as a PDF from the Mac or iPhone app.

Estate and trust

Built for matters that outlive a fiscal year.

Probate and trust administration carry their own facts: a decedent, a court, a case number, a fiduciary and the people who inherit. Tier 4 Legal keeps them on the matter and reconciles the money around them.

Estate matters

Decedent, date of death, probate court, case number, fiduciary and role, and beneficiaries, on the matter and in the detail view.

Master ledger

Time, costs, bills, payments, trust and retainer movements read from one ledger export and placed where they belong.

Rate tables

Rates by client, matter and timekeeper, resolved on every entry and shown in plain words.

Task and cost codes

Your codes, kept as managed lists with default rates and a picker on every time entry.

Statements

Opening balance, bills, payments, trust lines and the closing balance for any period, as a PDF.

Trust to the cent

Running balances, overdraw refused, a tie-out and three way reconciliation of ledger, client balances and the adjusted bank balance.

Deadlines on the docket

Court dates and deadlines kept with the matter, imported from your calendar export and flagged when overdue.

Your numbering

Bills continue after the highest number you already use, with your own prefix, gapless.

Questions

Asked before a firm moves.

How does the trust accounting protect client money?

The trust ledger tracks every dollar per client with a running balance. A disbursement that would overdraw a client balance is refused before it is written. Three way reconciliation of the ledger, the client balances and the adjusted bank balance is in the product, with the tie-out kept for the auditor.

Is our data secure?

Data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.3 and stored in managed PostgreSQL with daily backups. We never share or sell firm data.

Can clients pay their bills online?

Yes. The client portal takes card payments through Stripe. Send a portal link and the client reads the bill and pays it; the payment reconciles against the bill automatically.

What happens to our old data?

It moves in. The exports from your old program are read, previewed and written only when you say so, and every row that cannot be placed is named by file and row before you finish. The whole move-in can be undone from inside the app as long as nothing new has been built on top of it.

See your own data in it before you commit to anything.

Bring your exports. We walk the preview with you and read every left-out row together.
